  Sometimes nature needs a helping hand!

  We all know plants need water to thrive. But to really nurture your plants, and get abundant lush foliage, flowers & fruit, plants really need to be fed regularly.

  The Yates Team decided to do some independent growing trials with Eurofins Agroscience Services, Hastings, NZ. The trials were conducted over 10 weeks commencing October 2015 on both cos lettuce and pansy seedlings. Both plants were grown in a basic potting media in a greenhouse over 10 weeks.

  Eurofins tested the impact of feeding cos lettuces and pansies with Yates Thrive Fish Blood & Bone Plant Food Concentrate and Yates Thrive Natural Fish & Seaweed+ Plant Food Concentrate, versus just water on its own. Check out the video to see the results of the trial.

  But for those that like a little more detail, the report from Eurofins highlighted the following (statistically significant) differences:

  • Lettuces: Taller plants, larger & greener leaves, more vigorous growth
  • Pansies: Taller plants, larger and greener leaves, more vigorous growth and more flowers

  Why such a difference?

  Yates Thrive Fish Blood Bone Plant Food Concentrate contains cold composted fish & seaweed, a gentle extraction method that preserves more of the delicate growth boosting compounds. This is combined with powerful levels of NPK.

  Would seaweed alone do the same job?

  Seaweed is not a plant food or fertiliser, it’s actually a tonic. It’s great to kickstart seedlings and improve their root development (and hence help reduce transplant shock).

  However, the research with Eurofins showed that seaweed tonics don’t give a significant difference in the height of a plant, size or greenness of the leaves, number of flowers or growth vigour.

  DIRECTIONS

  SHAKE BOTTLE WELL. Apply all year round as directed.

  Always dilute Yates Thrive Fish Blood Bone Plant Food Concentrate with water before applying to plants or lawns.

  1 capful = approximately 40ml.

  PLANT TYPE/APPLICATION RATE (in 9 L watering can or sprayer).

  All plants in pots and garden beds: 40–80ml (1-2 capfuls) in 9L of water. Repeat every 1–2 weeks during active growth. For maintenance, apply every 2-3 weeks at lower rate. Apply over leaves and soil. Use lower rate for immature plants.

  Delicate plants, e.g. ferns and African violets: 20ml (half capful) in 9L of water. Repeat every 1–2 weeks during active growth. For maintenance, apply every 2-3 weeks. For African violets only apply around base of plant.

  Large shrubs and trees: 80–120ml (2-3 capfuls) in 9L of water. Repeat every 2 weeks during active growth. For maintenance, apply every 4 weeks. Apply over leaves and soil around base of plant.

  Established lawns: 80-160ml (2-4 capfuls) in 9L of water. Repeat every 2 weeks during active growth. For maintenance, apply every 4 weeks. Apply 9L of solution over 18 m2 using a watering can with sprinkler bar attachment.

  Seedlings, transplanting, new plantings and new lawns: Use Yates Thrive Natural Seaweed Tonic until established (about 2–6 weeks), then feed with Yates Thrive Fish Blood Bone Plant Food Concentrate as above.
