Sturdy steel protective housing with durable copper coil wound ballast core, heavy duty capacitors for a stable voltage, fitted with a high voltage pulse start ignitor for a strong and reliable lamp ignition. This unit will run both 250w HPS (High Pressure Sodium) & 250w Metal Halide lamps.

Like all ballasts, a magnetic ballast regulates the voltage a lamp receives. Magnetic ballasts are essentially an electromagnet housed inside a box where the electrical current is channelled into a single induction coil. This is used in conjunction with capacitors to reduce and maintain the voltage to a specific level to suit HID lighting.

Because magnetic ballasts work mechanically through wire and steel, they are not the most efficient and can produce a lot of heat. Magnetic ballasts were the only option and best option for many years. Now you can get Electronic or Digital ballasts which don’t require the heavy steel coil of a magnetic so run cooler, have adjustable Output levels are more power efficient.
